Mud Obstacle Coarse Racing or OCR’s is a exciting way to get you through a 10 – 21km trail race. The trails take you through mountain terrain, in any weather condition with obstacles mostly made from poles, rope, water and mud. You need to navigate through them, under them, over them, swim in, jump off, crawl through them.
Add to this the racing element and it makes for an exciting event. The event organizers also make provision for families and friends and normally add a fun 5km dress up race.
I am going for a knee operation in a few days time. I will start training 1 week after my operation for my next OCR in November called the IMPI Challenge. I will add some distance to my current weight training by doing a steady 5km run in the morning and adding some speed bursts as I go. I will also add a hour run in the mountain reserve close to wear I live called Fernkloof Nature Reserve over the next few weekends.
This should see me strong and in good shape for the event.
The biggest challenge though is finding the right team members. I love racing with my wife, we understand eachother, know eachothers strong and week points and support each other where necessary. I must just approach like minded people to join and we could be unstoppable.
Here is some pictures from my last race
What you need: Trail runners that has done a race or two
If you have them great, otherwise go buy them now! Your trail runners will be the most important part of your equipment you’ll need. You will need to run them in for your preparation up to the event. One of the brands I like racing in is Saloman
Happy training all, hope I see some challengers at the IMPI Challenge #4 – Cape Town 18 – 19 November 2017
